BCCI has denied any replacement in the world cup squad. The aftermath of Shikhar Dhawan’s injury is that K.L. Rahul might be promoted up in the batting order while the number 4 position can be taken up by Vijay Shankar or Dinesh Karthik. Dhawan’s fractured thumb requires minimum rest of 3 weeks and BCCI has declared that he will continue to remain in England for the tournament.
Earlier speculations were that Shreyas Iyer or Rishabh Pant might get to join the squad as an opening batsman but BCCI denied considering any such options. This could be a great opportunity for Rahul to come up and take the responsibility of setting a good opening partnership with Rohit Sharma. While both Shankar and Karthik have proved themselves to be assets, let’s see who gets to step in. The exact decision of the team management is still not out yet.
