Deepika Kumari is an Indian archer born on 13th of June 1994 in Ranchi Jharkhand. Currently holding the rank of world numbe , the former world number one was born to humble parents. Her father- an auto-rikshhaw driver while mother, a nurse.
Her talent as an archer was discovered back when she was a child when she practiced with home made bamboo bow and arrows and was supported by her cousin Vidya Kumari who too is a former archer. She started her training in Arjun archery academy back in 2005. She won the 2006 archery world cup in U.S.A. in junior section.
At the Delhi commonwealth games 2010 Deepika won two gold medals. For this, she was honored with the Outstanding Performance at CWG (Female) Award at the 2010 Sahara Sports Awards ceremony.
Deepika Kumari was the part of the team that qualified for Rio Olympics back in 2016. The Indian women’s recursive team, finished 7th in the ranking round. The team won their match against Colombia in the round of 16 before losing the quarterfinal match against Russia.
She was awarded with Arjun Award in 2012 and Padma Shri in 2016. She truly is an outstanding athlete who is an inspiration to many women out there. We wish here a happy birthday and a prosperous future ahead.
